Below is an abridged selection of the Midlands Cavy Club 'Club Rules'. The full set of rules may be found in the latest edition of the Midlands Cavy Club handbook which is given to all new members.
1. NAME: The name of the club shall be the Midlands Cavy Club, hereinafter referred to as the Club. Membership of the club shall be open to all interested persons over 5 years old and resident in the UK.
2. OBJECTS: The objects of the Club shall be to promote the keeping, breeding and exhibiting of cavies by staging Stock Shows and giving club support to other shows and to further and protect the interests of its members and their exhibits.
3. SUBSCRIPTIONS: The annual subscription for membership of the Club shall be decided by the Executive, verified at the AGM and will commmence in the following calendar year. Membership catagories are Partnership, Adult, Juvenile and OAP. All rates will be advertised in 'Cavies'. All subscriptions are payable in advance, being due on January 1st each year. Any person whose annual subscription remains unpaid after 31st March in any year shall be deemed to have resigned from membership of the Club. The subscriptions of new members joining the club on or after the 1st of October in any year shall be valid until 31st December of the following year. A record of the names and addresses of all members of the club shall be kept by the Secretary and may be inspected by any member of the Club, provided a satisfactory reason is given for doing so.
5. JUDGING PANEL: A panel of 21 judges shall be elected from the membership of the Club. This number shall not include any person or persons who have been elected to the position of Life Judge.
8. BOUNDARIES: of the club shall be: Northern Boundary - Humber Estuary to the M62, M62 to Junction 26, then in a straight line to the Ribble Estuary. Southern Boundary - a horizontal line through Bedford. Eastern and Western Boundaries - the respective coastlines.
13. CHAMPIONSHIPS: A Championship Certificate can be granted on application and payment of the registration fee to any member's cavy which has won 5 first prizes under at least 3 seperate National, Area or Specialist Club judges. Only 2 of the wins may be in breed classes other than adult (over 8 months) breed classes. The show must guarantee to pay prize money. There must be at least 5 entries in each of the breed classes for the wins to count towards a Championship. If the cavy wins a breed class with less than 5 entries, but then goes on to win either Best Self or Best Non-Self, then this win may be counted towards a Championship. Double Championships can be granted for ten wins under six different judges; Triple Championships for 15 wins under 9 different judges, etc. A Juvenile Championship will be awarded to an exhibitor who claims 5 Best Juvenile awards under the MCC certificate of Merit Scheme for the same exhibit under at least 3 different judges, providing there are 5 or more pure bred exhibits in the section.
14. CLUB AWARDS: No person may be allowed to receive a Club trophy, certificate of merit etc unless he/she is a paid up member of the Club. The trophies of the Club shall be competed for each year at the Club's Trophy Show and shall be perpetual unless otherwise provided for by a donor. The venue of the Clubs' Trophy Show shall be decided at the AGM.
15. STUD NAMES: Members of the Club may exhibit their stock under a stud name and be recognised for any results using that name, provided that the name and appropriate registration fee has been received and accepted by the BCC Stud Registration Officer.
17. SHOW SUPPORT: The Club will grant Club support to clubs staging open pen shows and whose show schedule the Secretary considers satisfactory. The show must guarantee to pay prze money. The judges must be on a National, Area or Specialist Club Judging panel. The support shall be in the form of pen cards to be awarded to the Best Self, Best Non-Self, Best RV and Best Juvenile at that show and shall be sent to the club staging the show. The pen cards can then be redeemed by Club members for Certificates of Merit or similar.
